The Mission of…Boomer Babes Rock!
Welcome to my brand new web site, blog and bi-monthly Dream-Zine dedicated to Boomer Babes all around the world!
What exactly is a Boomer Babe? Born between 1946 and 1964, we are women who are comfortable enough in our own skin to realize that the mid-life years can be some of the best and most exciting in our entire life. That the hubris of youth is behind us and the wisdom of the years has made us pretty darn attractive—both inside and out. We are Boomer Babes and we’re proud of it!
Did you know that Baby Boomer women number 38 million? We are some of the healthiest, wealthiest, and best educated women to ever hit midlife. We are now between the ages of 43 and 61, and have been identified by the National Association of Baby Boomer Women as “faithful, loving, and hard-working women who multi-task to survive,” this powerful sisterhood hail from various backgrounds carrying different baggage, but most of us share the desire to make a difference. We are a stalwart demographic of vibrant women who want to make a difference.
Although Baby Boomer women are defined by our age, it is clear we are so much more than that. With Boomer women spending well over a trillion dollars a year on goods and services, the days of women 40+ being ignored by marketers are numbered. Overthrowing stereotypes of aging, the groundswell of awareness is no less than a marketing revolution. Boomer women influence elections, education, and consumerism. Boomer women are a diverse group. We are the heads of corporations and the matriarchs of families – and everything in between.
An obvious example of diversity among the boomers is our age range, which spans 19 years and means that while some boomers are grandparents, others on the lower range who started their families later in life are still getting kids into preschool. Some female boomers go to a website, BoomerWomenSpeak.com, to discuss their varied experiences. “Just like any other generation, we've had different experiences based on the choices we've made,” says the site's founder, Dotsie Bregel. “While there were plenty of [women] who climbed the corporate ladder, there were also women who chose to stay at home.”
During the boomer years, 1946-1964 (inclusive), 75.8 million Americans were born. The biggest year of the boom was 1957, when 4.3 million boomers were born. Baby boomers today represent 28% of the U.S. population, of which approximately 38 million are women.
Why have I shared this information with you—and why have I decided to focus on an entirely new target market demographic? While my journey at the helm of God Allows U-Turns has been incredibly rewarding, I find myself being drawn in a new direction. This past year I got to thinking about how amazing it’s been to live out my dreams while sharing my faith and focusing on my purpose. As a Boomer Babe, I got to thinking how awesome it would be if my fellow boomer sisters could pursue the dreams of their hearts and be as excited about their midlife years as I am.
What stops so many of us from finding excitement in life? In his best-selling book; “Your Best Life Now,” Joel Osteen says some of us settle for a life of mundane mediocrity—when God wants so much more for us. I found that out the hard way…I’ll bet some of you reading this right now did too. Many of us have made poor choices, taken wrong turns and traveled painful and sometimes tedious roads to get where we are today. Am I right?
I decided to launch my new business this year with a primary focus to empower and inspire Boomer Babes to make their dreams come true! Boomer Babes Rock! is all about living the great American dream. It’s about deciding today…at the start of this brand new year…that THIS is the break-out year when we’re going to make things happen—and happen in a BIG way!
What’s your dream? Is it going to law school, being a doctor, or owning your own business? Maybe you want to write the next great American novel, or record a CD of your own music? Whether it’s a major career change, taking an entrepreneurial risk, or learning at last to play the piano…whatever the dream of your heart … I ask you now…WHAT IS STOPPING YOU?
I was 45 years old when my first book was published. I’ll be 52 this year and one of the dreams of my heart is to write a screenplay that actually makes it to the big screen…that’s right, when I grow up I want to work in the movies. I’ve been laying the groundwork for years to make that dream come true—maybe this will be the year. (And, if anyone out there knows how I can get a meeting with Diane Keaton and/or Meryl Streep to pitch them on scripts I’ve written just for them, please give me a shout out, okay?)
