T. Suzanne Eller

suze-eller-2007.jpgI’m 47, but it seems like I was 25 just yesterday. I’m passionate about the roles in my life—mom, wife, writer, speaker, mentor—but I hope to always nurture the person within those roles.

My husband, Richard, is a country guy who snagged this city girl. I met him one starry night at college when I was sitting in the window of my car whistling at cars. He pulled over. He insists it was love at first whistle. Richard and I have been married for over a quarter of a century, and he’s still smoking hot to me. (If you are under the age of 21 and reading this, stay in the car, keep your seatbelt on at all times, and never, ever whistle at guys. I’m serious!)

Leslie is our 25-year-old blond beauty who is in her second year of law school. Ryan and Melissa are our 23-year old twins. In case, you are wondering I had three children in 19 months; and yes, my family planning did go awry.

Ryan and Melissa are both studying their master’s program. Ryan is my tall, gregarious, fun-loving son who works with high school students in a program called Educational Talent Search. Melissa, my other blond beauty, is a newlywed and studying to be a counselor. Josh, her husband, came to our family two years ago and we count him as one of our own. We have another wedding in May, when Stephen and Leslie will be married. Stephen is a gentle, kind, fun human being and we love him a lot.

Fifteen years ago I found out I had Stage III cancer. When I beat the five-year odds, I left the corporate world to pursue my dream of writing. It wasn’t an easy path to take, but it has certainly been adventurous! Today, I’m the author of several books and hundreds of articles, as well as a parenting and youth culture columnist, and speaker.

I’ve hung out with teens for nearly 20 years. There were adults who invested in my life when I was younger and home was a tough place to be. I write and speak to teens and mentor teen writers. I also serve as a community mentor in a community program called the 2010 Challenge. I have the privilege of connecting with over 400 freshmen girls for three years in my home city. I love it!

I love to watch movies, go to estate sales and antique stores and love vintage costume jewelry. My favorite movies are The Village and Simon Burch. My favorite thing to do is to read old books picked up at estate sales. I also love riding my quarterhorse, Annie. (The country has definitely seeped into the former city girl.)

I love the gift of laughter. I believe that it is the small things that will be the most significant when it is all said and done. I am a woman of faith, and that is the core of who I am. I’m God’s girl and I’m grateful.
