BOOMER BABES ON BRIEF HIATUS

August 1st, 2008

Dear Loyal Boomer Babe Readers (and the Boomer Dudes who love us):

I couldn’t have said it better than Suzie did in her posting below, so I’ll make this short and encourage you to review her message. We’ll be taking off for the remainder of 2008 while the entire Boomer Babes web site and blog undergoes revision and refocus. We’ll continue to send updates from time-to-time over the next few months via our newsletter mailing list, so make sure you visit our web site to sign-up. Our wonderful Dream-Zine will continue to be published and it will have a fresh new look in 2009. We’re also going to have some chat room forum features on our Sanity Support web site, so you’ll want to make sure to stay around, okay? We’ll keep the profile links to our Boomer Babes Blog team active on the left, so make sure to visit us, okay? It’s been a joy getting to know so many of you this past year and a half. We look forward to seeing you all soon! May God continue to bless and keep you and yours, and hold you in the palm of his hands. – Allison Bottke

Bittersweet

July 25th, 2008

SuzieSaying goodbye is never fun, so I won’t say it today.

All of us are easily found, just in other neighborhoods.

Dotsie is the Big Boss of the #1 Boomer site on the web at http://www.boomerwomenspeak.com and posts in the forums every day.

Eva Marie, our sunny Florida girl is sitting pretty at http://www.evamarieeverson.com and also writes regularly for Crosswalk.

Keri, our youngest BBR lives in windy Chicago and can be found talking about a lot of relevant issues at http://keriwyattkent.com/soul.

Miss Allison is busy bringing S.A.N.I.T.Y. to the world and you can catch up with her at http://www.allisonbottke.com/.

And me? I’m blogging five days a week at http://tsuzanneeller.com. Come hang out with me. Would you? I’d love to stay connected! I also work with teens and blog five days a week at http://realteenfaith.com. I blog once a quarter at Christianity Today’s http://giftedforleadership.com. I’m also on Facebook (Suzanne Eller). And last (NEW) I’m hosting a page for Time Warner’s new Momlogic.com at http://community.momlogic.com/group/christianmomlogic.

Can you tell that it’s hard to let go? I’ve given you everything but a GPS to my home. : )

Now, on to the bittersweet part. I’ve grown fond of this group of women. I love to hear Keri’s take on life. Her social stance. Her view of family. She’s someone I know I would love to hang out with. Dotsie is fascinating. She’s created a network for Boomers that has formed a strong voice for women. She’s compassionate, and smart. Eva loves Scripture and theology and her posts always take us deep. I miss Connie’s sweet voice. I loved how she helped me appreciate life and family. Her outlook was positive and joyfilled.

And Miss Allison? I love this lady. She’s a true friend. I love running in to her at conferences or writing events or the national Christian retail conference every year. She’s honest, and genuine. Her friendship has no ties, just that sparkly smile and energy that draws you in. She’s the real deal, and I’m thankful for the year and half to hang out with her here at BBR.

So, today we are not saying goodbye, but extending an invitation for you to join each of us at our old “homes” while BBR takes a rest. If Allie promises it will emerge in January bigger, brighter, better. Then it will, and how fun will that be?

I appreciate all the readers who have visited every day. You are what made this blog rock.

Having it all…

July 24th, 2008

I had the most frustrating time playing tennis yesterday.
In certain seasons of my life I would sometimes play three or four times a week. Those seasons were not exactly times when my career was charging full-steam ahead. But my backhand was wicked!

Seeking Peace

July 21st, 2008

Maybe it’s the fact that all three young adult children are home. Maybe it’s because it’s summer and I want to play more and work less. Maybe it’s that I’m a boomer woman and experiencing peri-menopausal symptoms. Maybe it’s a bit of all the above. Who really knows?

Lately, I’m seeking peace. I want deep down, honest to goodness, peace in my heart. I want the kind that can only come from the love of Jesus.

Early morning, while sitting on the patio, surrounded by my Bible, journal, study, and prayer folder – petunia aroma, chirping birds, buzzing locusts, sun to my left, tall pines to my right, dog at my feet, I feel it seep in from the top of my midlife highlighted head to the bottom of my pink pedicured summer toes. The peace settles in and resides completely.

Then I close my God centered items, place them back in the basket at the kitchen table, head off to throw in laundry, water a few plants, straighten from the hours of young adult livelihood lived while hubby and I slept, and then get to work. There are calls to make, emails to answer, forums in which to post, bills to be paid, writing to do, contest entries to be read, and the list goes.

A couple hours later, I’m searching… The house phone rings, work phone, cell phone – all ring – friends come to call, the kids are coming and going, the dryer buzzes, dog barks, mailman arrives – the demands are piling up. Life’s in full swing.

I’ve lost that peaceful feeling. Sometimes - by God’s grace, I hear that still small voice and I’m called back to peace.

Other times – I’m so wrapped up, so charged, full steam ahead, lots of energy, onward, and I lose it totally…

until I awaken the next day, check in with God, and begin again.

I’m grateful He’s willing to greet me each morning, forgive me for losing Him, and allow me to begin again.

Does this sound familiar?

For God is not a God of confusion, but a God of peace. -1 Corinthians 14:33

Curs-ed Insomnia

July 18th, 2008

A bleary-eyed Suzie sits in front of this laptop today. It’s Day #12 in a string of sleepless nights. I’m exhausted, a little cranky, and considering a hammer to the head (a light tap) to help me sleep tonight. It all started when they removed my ovaries 17 years ago. . .
